The Magic of Snæfellsnes Peninsula

Duration 12 hours. Level of difficulty easy.

Join us on a day tour to the diverse and dramatic landscape of Snæfellsnes peninsula in the West of Iceland, that Icelanders often associate with spiritual experiences and folk tales. Spend the day in Snæfellsnes National Park, often described as “Iceland in Miniature” for its diverse scenery. Snæfellsnes is famed for its glacier-capped stratovolcano Snæfellsjökull, glacier that inspired Jules Verne in his book, Journey to the Centre of the Earth. We will pass the colorful rhyolite mountains Ljósufjöll and take a photo stop at the picturesque Bersekjahraun lava field. We continue through charming fishing village of Grundarfjördur on the north site of the peninsula with a brief stop to admire Kirkjufell, a mountain in shape of a cathedral and a nearby waterfall under the spectacular mountains Helgrindur with it’s eternal snow on top. Our journey continues through few fising villages through lava field to the crater Saxhóll, our next stop where you can walk up the crater and admire the stunning surrounding landscape. Then we continue to Djúpalónssandur with its rock formations, to enjoy a stroll on the black sand beach. Our next stop is at Arnastapi, a charming fishing village with basalt sea cliffs where we will experience the incredible birdlife during summer. Follow Arnarstapi we take you to the dramatical Black Church at Budir, and the golden beach for a short photo stop. Before leaving the Snæfellsnes we will stop at the farm Ytri Tunga, where you can spot seals on the beach and a skelaton of a whale with a view toward Snæfellsjökull glacier.
